The .trust top-level domain (TLD) is an active and secure gTLD that was proposed in ICANN's New gTLD Program and became operational in 2014. Operated by NCC Group plc and its subsidiary NCC Group Domain Services, the registry provides a high level of security assurance to customers transacting with websites using .trust domain names. The registry offers a set of best-of-breed verification tools and a dedicated security operations center (SOC) team that ensures registrants comply with the .trust Technical Policy.
The acquisition of rights to the .trust TLD was originally held by Deutsche Post AG, which later sold all its rights to NCC Group plc. In accordance with ICANN procedures, Deutsche Post AG signed a Registry agreement with ICANN, which was then assigned to NCC Group’s subsidiary Artemis Internet (now renamed NCC Group Domain Services). The delegation of the TLD to the Root Zone took place on December 6, 2014. During the Sunrise period from December 16, 2014, to March 7, 2015, trademark holders were given priority to register their marks as .trust domain names. NCC Group has also formed an ICANN-accredited Registrar, NCC Group Secure Registrar, to offer the .trust Domain Service as an end-to-end solution. There are no known restrictions on owning a .trust domain.
