.hosting is a new top-level domain (TLD) that was successfully delegated to Uniregistry, LLC in August 2014, following the completion of the Initial Evaluation process by ICANN. The name .hosting suggests a connection to web hosting services or related technology. Uniregistry, owned by domainer Frank Schilling, emerged as the successful applicant after a private auction against Radix and Donuts, who had also applied for the TLD. The domain had 3,117 registrations as of the time of writing, with nearly 70% of these being parked domains.
The acquisition of the .hosting domain by Uniregistry was not without controversy, however. Radix, a portfolio applicant that had applied for 31 new TLDs, received a GAC Early Warning due to an email address associated with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation being included in their applications. This was the first time an entire portfolio applicant had all of their applications flagged in this way. Despite this setback, Radix ultimately withdrew from the application process. There are no known restrictions on owning or registering a .hosting domain at this time.
