Information

.eus is a new generic top level domain (gTLD) that was successfully delegated to the Root Zone of the Domain Name System (DNS) by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on April 11, 2014. The domain is operated by PuntuEus Association, an organization dedicated to representing, preserving, and promoting the Basque language and culture. The association passed all the necessary processes to become a registry operator for the string.

Restrictions

The registration process for .eus domains is divided into three phases: pioneer, launch, and general availability. During the pioneer phase, entities with a specific vocation in promoting Basque language and culture, including public authorities, are given priority to register. Trademark and other distinctive signs rights holders, as well as entities with previous online communications in Basque, also have priority during this phase. In the launch phase, all registrations are thoroughly pre-validated based on community nexus. The general availability phase is open to all eligible registrants who have not been able to claim any of the priorities listed above. Community nexus is subject to post-validation during this phase through an extensive compliance program. Paragraph 3: The .eus domain aims to ensure strong protection of trademarks and stamp out cybersquatting and abusive registrations by combining community nexus validation with strong protection of trademarks. The ongoing compliance program is regularly adapted based on experience and audit findings. The successful application for the string was signed by ICANN on December 12, 2013.
