The Estonian Internet Foundation (EIF) manages the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Estonia, which is represented by the suffix ".ee." Founded in 2009, EIF is a not-for-profit organization established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications. Prior to EIF's establishment, the ccTLD was operated by EENet, with a limit of one domain name per legal entity, and valid registrations being free of charge. In 2010, EIF took over the registry functions from EENet, requiring all existing domains to be re-registered during a six-month transition period. New rules allow an unlimited number of domains to be registered by a single entity, enabling private persons and foreign entities to register domains directly under .ee, while domain disputes are handled by the Domain Disputes Committee.
There are certain restrictions when it comes to registering a domain under the Estonian Internet Foundation's (EIF) ".ee" suffix. Previously, there was a limit of one domain name per legal entity, but this restriction has been lifted, allowing an unlimited number of domains to be registered by a single entity. Private persons and foreign entities are now able to register domains directly under .ee, although all domains must have an administrative contact with a residence in Estonia. Domain disputes will be handled by the Domain Disputes Committee. Registration services can be done through accredited registrars listed on EIF's website, and domains can be registered and renewed for one, two, or three years. The registration fee for registrars is set to 12, 23, or 33 Euros plus tax in 2014 depending on the registration period. Additionally, there are specific third-level domain names such as .com.ee for companies, .pri.ee for individuals, .fie.ee for self-employed people, and .med.ee for medical/health care institutions.
