The .creditcard top-level domain (TLD) is a generic TLD operated by Donuts, an ICANN-accredited domain name registrar. The TLD represents the broad and diverse group of individuals and organizations with affinity for or professional interest in credit cards. It was delegated to the Root Zone of the Domain Name System (DNS) on April 29, 2014, after passing all the necessary processes required by ICANN.
Donuts, the registry operator for .creditcard, has committed to implementing extensive protection mechanisms against abuse and infringement of trademark rights. They believe that limiting access to second-level domain names based on identity is unnecessarily restrictive and harms users by denying them access to legitimate registrations. Instead, they have struck a balance between consumer and business safety and open access to second-level domains. Paragraph 3: The .creditcard TLD is expected to be attractive and useful for various entities such as credit card issuers, merchant service providers, banking and credit analysts, publishers of credit card and consumer debt data, credit counselors, individual stores, and even numismatists. It would provide a forum for expression or debate about the use, management, and regulation of consumer credit. Donuts intends to operate the TLD in a secure and legitimate manner, ensuring it is in the best interests of registrants who put registrations in the TLD to use. Paragraph 4: Donuts has consulted with international law enforcement, consumer privacy advocacy organizations, intellectual property interests, and other Internet industry groups to create a set of protections that exceed those in existing TLDs. They have developed nearly two dozen new rights and protection mechanisms to raise user safety and protection to a new level. These protections include measures against phishing, malware, and other forms of cybercrime, as well as mechanisms for trademark protection and dispute resolution. Paragraph 5: On March 20, 2014, Donuts received a signed Registry Agreement from ICANN, completing the process to become the registry operator for .creditcard. The TLD was delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on April 29, 2014. Since then, Donuts has been working diligently to implement these protections and ensure a safe and secure environment for registrants and users of the .creditcard TLD.
