Information

.band is a new Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) that was successfully delegated to the Root Zone of the Domain Name System (DNS) on August 15, 2014. The domain was proposed by Donuts (Auburn Hollow, LLC), a company formed by domain industry veterans who applied for 307 new gTLDs. Donuts' Executive Vice President for Sales & Marketing, Daniel Schindler, served as the main contact for the application. Another applicant, Red Triangle, LLC, also applied for the .band string through WhatBox?, a company that owns domain name registrars and resellers, with Erik Ludwick listed as the main contact person. However, Red Triangle withdrew their application following a private auction administered by Applicant Auction in April 2014, which Donuts won.

Restrictions

There were community objections filed against both applications by the American Association of Independent Music. Despite this, Donuts passed the Initial Evaluation and received a Registry Agreement signed by ICANN on June 12, 2014. The .band domain was then delegated to the Root Zone of the DNS on August 15, 2014. There are no known restrictions on owning or registering a .band domain, making it an open and accessible option for individuals and organizations looking for a unique online presence within this lifestyle-focused gTLD.
